Data Transfer to the Water utility key figures -tool
The data on the Water utility key figures -tool are transferred to the Vesi.fi service from the VATI and VEETI databases via data interfaces. Water quality data and treatment methods come from the VATI system. Key performance indicators (KPIs) for water utilities come from the VEETI system.
The Finnish Environment Institute (Syke) maintains the VEETI information system.
The VEETI database contains information about water utilities. The utilities enter their annual data into the VEETI system, and based on these annual entries, the system calculates key indicators for water services.
Annual data must be submitted by the end of April. The new KPIs retrieved from the VEETI database are updated on the Vesi.fi water service reports during the first week of May. During the following week, the annual averages and public summary reports are also updated.
If they wish, the utilities may also upload annually required operational documents (annual report, financial statements, and delivery terms) to VEETI. These documents are automatically transferred to the Vesi.fi service for public viewing.
The Vesi.fi website synchronizes data from the VEETI database at least once per day, so any changes will appear on the site with a maximum delay of one day. If there are questions about the data shown on Vesi.fi, the information can be verified in the VEETI system. If there are deficiencies or errors in the data, please contact the VEETI support service.
The Finnish Food Authority maintains the VATI system. Water quality data (information from water samples) and treatment method data are updated via an interface to the Vesi.fi service once per day. The data are transferred only after municipal health protection authorities have reviewed the results in the VATI database.
If the data are incomplete or have not been updated, the primary contact should be the local health protection unit, which verifies the laboratory results and the data entered in VATI. If uncertainties remain after that, the unit should submit a support request to the VATI support service.
In most error situations, the issue is that data are missing or have been entered using incorrect measurement units. Sometimes laboratories report data in different units than those required by the Drinking Water Regulation for comparable limit values. It is also possible that non-numeric characters have been entered into a numeric field in the VATI database, which causes an error when Vesi.fi generates graphs (limit exceedance – red bar). The laboratory that performed the analysis can confirm what values were entered in the system. If the data have been entered correctly in the laboratory’s database but the error still appears in the report, please contact Valvira and describe the error situation.
